Hi,

I was asked to possibly provide a really cheap ($8/person or less) and nice meal for a father-daughter dance. The menu has to be kid-friendly yet enough to satisfy dads. Any ideas? This is my first time doing something like this.

Hi there
When I think inexpensive and kid friendly the first thing that pops into my mind is pasta. A pasta with meatballs and a variety of sauces on the side might work on a buffet with a Caesar and Garden salad. Desssert could be assorted squares or pie or something inexpensive. Hope this helps
God Bless

I agree with Bryguy - pastas are about the most affordable thing you can do like that.

Your other option would be to have a build your own sandwich bar, some pasta and/or potato salad, chips, etc.

OR you could not even have a full meal and just make some desserts. Do they have to have an entire dinner or would it work to have a crudite (veg & dip), chips & a variety of cookies & bars for dessert?

The other question is do you have $8/person food budget or are you trying to cater (and make a little money) off it? If you're doing it as a caterer you are not going to make anything off that budget. Especially if you have to take care of beverages, plates, etc. If you're only trying to get the cost of ingredients it shouldn't be too bad to meet that budget with any of the previous ideas.

I concur and can only ask if it is a luncheon or diner meal...and can you or do you have the equipment for a buffet, or do you need to serve plated meals?
The more info the better prepared to give a more complete catering plan. And Hopefully Fathers will be open to things that make their girls happy....
