Dear CCF Member,
As you've probably already noticed, this isn't a normal newsletter. You can still find the time-sensitive items of the newsletter below -- such as the job listings, resume listings, and recipe contest listings. Instead of having the usual newsletter, I would like to share with you what CCF is REALLY about. Unless you've just subscribed (in which case you can check out our website for past newsletters), I'm sure you know most of what's available through CCF (the newsletter, job listings, message boards, etc.), but do you really know why? I mean the deep down of why God started the ministry and what He's doing through it?
To begin, Christian Chefs Fellowship is a ministry of our almighty God - NOT a corporation looking for money or any other earthly goods. Although many people have lost the true meaning of the word "ministry", in our case, it is a Biblical group started by God for the use of ministering to His children as well as being a witness to unbelievers. This focus goes through every aspect of the Fellowship. All who help with CCF do so on a volunteer basis because God called us to. We set aside time out of our busy schedules and make sure that we keep our priorities right with our personal time with God, our families, and our full-time (with plenty of overtime) jobs. We're also waiting on God before even going so far as to have a bank account. Our financial obligations at the time being are minimal, and we want to wait to sell "Christian Chefware" and other similar frequently requested things until after we've been approved by the IRS for federal tax-exempt status (please keep that in prayer, as they're taking a very long time to process it). Otherwise, the newsletter will always remain free as well as almost all of the existing other ministries currently provided.
So is the ministry here just to be an interesting thing for Christian cooks and chefs? No - it's definitely not just about the food and other fun stuff like that. God is doing a lot of work through the Fellowship. How many other Christian cooks and chefs do you know outside of CCF that are able to encourage you and help you to be prepared to take all the slings and arrows the industry has to throw at you - especially if you're not in a Christian aspect of the industry? Other than some at culinary school, I've rarely ever worked with any Christians in the secular industry. That's also why we have a vision of one day starting a Christian culinary school - to prepare students both in their culinary education AND in their spiritual walk in order to be prepared both physically and spiritually to enter whatever field God has called them into. And not just for personal needs, but also to be ready in season and out as a witness to the others around us. Other ideas that we believe God may one day start are a Christian cooking show on TV, a missions support team, and a Christian Chefs Magazine.
Also many cooks are unable to attend Sunday services because of work schedules and CCF is their only contact with other Christians. We HIGHLY recommend that everyone find a home church to attend regularly and get involved with, but we realize that some don't, and we want to be there for them as well. Most people who aren't in the industry have no idea what it's like in today's kitchens, and don't always know how to encourage you to survive it either, which is another blessing God is able to provide through CCF. And as 1 John 1:7 exclaims, "If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another", making Christian fellowship a foundational aspect of a Christian's faith.
Since God has called us into this field, He definitely would want for us to do the best we possibly can in the field. That's why we focus so much on the culinary end with educational articles, recipes, and all that. God's Word tells us that we, as Christians, are to be more diligent and sincere workers than those of the world, for we are called to "Work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; when we are slandered, we answer kindly." 1 Corinthians 4:12-13 (NIV) And I pray this ministry of His is able to help us to achieve that more and more.
I do have a couple requests though for you personally. Most important of all is for your prayers for CCF to be all the ministry God would have with His limitless potential rather than the ideas of our own limited minds. Secondly, we would greatly appreciate your feedback. If you see different ways we can help minister to you and other Christian cooks and chefs in (or related to) the industry, please let us know. If there's something in the newsletter or website you disagree with or something you would like to see added, please let us know. If there's something you really like, tell us then too, so that we can know what blesses you. Also if, and only if God is calling you to minister to your fellow cooks and chefs in any way in your local community or possibly even with us internationally, let us know.
